The Jewish community in Sankt Poelten, from the annexation to Germany, November 1938 to the middle of May 1940 Jewish life in Sankt Poelten during the time of the Anschluss (Annexation to Germany); restrained attitude of the population towards the Jews including the local Nazi party leadership; turning point for the worst, 10 November 1938: harassment, arrests and forceful eviction of the Jews from their apartments, imprisoning of people aged 20-60 in Dachau; destruction of the contents of the synagogue including equipment and religious articles, the library and community files, 11 November 1938; continuation of the community to function under pressure and decrees; turning the synagogue building into public property belonging to the municipality; orders for the evacuation of the city of Jews by mid-May 1940.
