Two official letters received by Aranka Kovesdi from her place of work in Vienna, notifying her of her dismissal for being Jewish, May-July 1938 Comments from the submitters of the material: Aranka Kovesdi, born in Hungary, 1911; residence at the age of 27 with her family in Vienna; her work in the Markus Weiss fashion house; intensification of the Nazi influence in Austria; written notice that due to her being Jewish, she must leave her employment (the dismissal letter, written 16 May 1938, says,"in order to Aryanize the busines"); her escape to London before the Anschluss; adoption as a daughter by a Jewish family in London; work as a nurse in a London hospital; move to Worthing with her adoptive parents. Deaths of her adoptive parents; decision to make aliya, December 1995, but no proof of her Jewishness, except for the dismissal letters; 60 years later, these letters served as proof of her right to make aliya to the State of Israel under the Law of Return.
