This collection contains documents pertaining to the communication between the Ministry of Interior of the Independent State of Croatia and the Jewish population. Most of the preserved files contain requests and petitions from Jews to be exempted from race laws and other forms of discrimination, such as wearing the"Jewish sign”. Some applicants filed requests for receiving"Honorary Arya" status. Other files contain requests for travel documents and work-permits. Sources on non-Jews who filed official requests to establish their"racial purit" and reconstruction of family trees are also preserved. In addition, the collection contains reports on Jews who were in hiding and those who were intermarried.
The collection holds many victims' families' requests for their loved ones to be released from the concentration camps such as Jasenovac, Stara Gradiška or Lobor. Various files documenting deportations can be found, such as the orders to the Croatian railways as well as orders for individual and mass arrests. For instance, files about the deportations of victims from the Lobor camp to Nazi Germany are preserved. Parts of the correspondence between various"Jewish council" and the “Jewish department” are also held in this collection.
The collection on the"Jewish departmen" is part of the more extensive archival collection of the Ministry of Interior of the Independent State of Croatia. Since 2013, however, it has its own separate inventory description.
