Συλλογή Ιωάννη Μέγα

Ioannis Megas was born in 1945 in Thessaloniki, where he grew up and studied civil engineering at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Faculty of Engineering. He worked as an engineer in England, Nigeria, and Athens. In 2000, he returned to Thessaloniki. For the past 30 years, he has been collecting materials on the history of Thessaloniki for the period 1850-1950, consisting of everything based on paper, namely postcards, photographs, engravings, books, magazines, maps, shares, brochures, theater and cinema programs, letterheads, etc. He has written eleven books on subjects that are always related to the history of Thessaloniki, using materials from his collection for the illustrations.

Books and postcards 

The Megas Ioannis collection includes letters, photos, postcards related to the history of Thessaloniki. A large number of postcards depicts Jewish people or buildings belonging to members of the Jewish Community of Thessaloniki.  

The books of this collection cannot be loaned, but they can be read on site. Some of the books have been digitized and can be read online. The postcards are under digitization process and cannot be loaned.
