Working for the Catholic welfare organisation Caritasverband she provided Jews with material support and helped them to escape German territory. Arrested in 1943 she was imprisoned in Ravensbrück concentration camp till the end of the Second World War. Invited by Leo Baeck, Luckner was among the first Germans who visited the newly founded state Israel in 1951. In 1966 Yad Vashem honoured her as 'Righteous among the Nations'.

See Gutman, I.
