Correspondence with Forschungsstelle für die Geschichte Hamburgs

The Forschungsstelle für die Geschichte Hamburgs was first established in 1949 with the remit to verify and appraise sources and documentation pertaining to the history of Hamburg during the Nazi era. It closed in 1956 only to reopen in 1959, in the light of recent swastika daubings, with the broader remit to study the political and social background history to the rise of Nazism covering the years 1918-1948.

Beside the exchange of published material the correspondence centres on an enquiry by the Forschungsstelle for support in gaining access to archival material under the administration of the British authorities, and on work related trips by some staff members to the Library or the Forschungsstelle respectively. Contained are two transcripts of pieces on ‘Antisemitsm and Nationalism’, and on Gerald Reitlinger’s study ‘The Final Solution’.
