Correspondence with Poliakov, Leon

Of Jewish-Russian descent, Leon Poliakov (1910-1997) was a French historian and Anti-Nazi resistance fighter. After the Second World War he published extensively on Antisemitism and the Holocaust, authoring one of the first comprehensive studies ever on this topic (1951). He had also been a co-founder of the Center of Contemporary Jewish Documentation (CDJC) and had assisted the French prosecutor during the Nuremberg Trials.

Documenting The Wiener Library’s involvement in his research and publications the correspondence deals with various information requests by Poliakov on individuals and their role in the Nazi era. Conversely, Poliakov contributed a review about H. G. Adler’s study on Thesienstadt for the Library’s Bulletin (1955), and an article for a Festschrift the Library published for its president L.G. Montefiore (1961). Contained is a memo by Alfred Wiener on a meeting with Poliakov and an undated draft for a publication.
