The paternal grandparents of the donors, Margit (neé Sonnenfeld) and Vilmos Deutsch, were Jewish residents of Bekescsaba, Hungary, who along with other family members from that generation perished in the Holocaust. Their son, Leslie Daniel (formerly Laszlo (Laci) Deutsch), emigrated to Great Britain after having survived Auschwitz and Mauthausen respectively. Their daughter Zsuzsanna (Zsuzsi) Deutsch was murdered in Auschwitz.
