The files and books of the Police Directorate Prague fonds were taken into the archive gradually until 1962. The records of the fonds were still partly shredded and partly lost at the originator.
Spisy a knihy fondu Policejní ředitelství Praha byly přejímány do archivu postupně až do roku 1962. Písemnosti fondu byly ještě u původce částečně vyskartovány a částečně ztraceny.

The Police Directorate Prague II - General Records Fonds is divided into three handling periods: 1921-1930, 1931-1940, 1941-1950. The fonds contains mainly files kept in police or police administrative matters on individual persons who resided in the territory of Greater Prague. In the personal files one can find information for the investigation of misdemeanors, reports on the person, personal documents (e.g. passports, ID photos, etc.).

Policejní ředitelství v Praze bylo zřízeno dvorským dekretem Josefa II v roce 1785. Místní působnost úřadu se postupně rozšiřovala. V roce 1850 bylo stanoveno, že v místech, kde policejní obvod se rozkládá na jednotlivé okresy, mají být zřízeny centrální úřady. Pro vyřizování společných záležitostí byla zřízena zvláštní oddělení, jejichž působnost se vztahovala na celý pražský obvod (např. oddělení bezpečnostní, pasové, ústřední přihlašovací úřad). Vznikem samostatné republiky se nezměnila ani základní organizace, ani kompetence úřadu.
The Police Directorate in Prague was established by a court decree of Joseph II in 1785. The local scope of the office gradually expanded. In 1850, it was stipulated that central offices should be established in places where the police district extended into individual districts. Special departments were set up to deal with common matters, the scope of which covered the entire Prague district (e.g. security department, passport department, central registration office). Neither the basic organisation nor the competences of the office changed with the establishment of the independent republic.
