pre-war
On 16 January 2020 Deborah Cohn, daughter of Abram alias Avram Cohn and Gittel Eisner kindly permitted Kazerne Dossin to digitise two pictures from her family photo album.
Before the war Abram alias Avram Cohn (born on 20 September 1904 in Corni, Romania), his wife Gittel Eisner (born on 14 February 1909 in Dobromil, Poland) and their daughter Deborah live in the Netherlands. Abram and Gittel then divorce. On 14 May 1941 Gittel marries Josef Reiter (born on 2 December 1905 in Dombrowa, Poland) in The Hague, the Netherlands. In late 1942 or early 1943 Josef and Gittel flee to Belgium. They settle at Posschierstraat 9 in Etterbeek, Brussels, under the false Flemish name Dierckx. Josef and Gittel are identified and arrested in May 1943, after which they are transferred to the Dossin barracks in Mechelen. Neither survives deportation to Auschwitz-Birkenau via Transport XXI on 31 July 1943. Abram alias Avram Cohn and his daughter Deborah remain in the Netherlands. Abram alias Avram Cohn is hiding at Pijnboomstraat 63 in The Hague, the Netherlands. He is arrested during a raid there on 18 January 1944 and is deported from Westerbork to Auschwitz-Birkenau. He does not survive. Daughter Deborah Cohn survives the war in hiding in the Friesland province. After the war she marries and has children.
