Henrotte-Balay family. Collection

http://lod.ehri-project-test.eu/units/be-002157-kd_00033 an entity of type: Record

These documents were saved by Henriette Henrotte, daughter of Hubert Henrotte and Emma Balay.
During the Second World War Hubert Henrotte and his wife Emma Balay were involved in acts of resistance. When approached by Emile Dernivoy, teacher in Bressoux and human trafficker (passeur) for the armed resistance, the Henrotte-Balay family agreed to hide French soldiers and Jews at their home at Rue Victor Carpentier in Bressoux. They became members of the resistance network of Max-Albert Van den Berg. Among those hidden by Hubert Henrotte and Emma Balay, was Idela (Ajdel) Syndla Moszkowicz, paternal grandmother of Estera Chana (Anna) Szlamowicz, a classmate of Louise Henrotte, daughter of Hubert Henrotte and Emma Balay. In 1952, the Kingdom of Belgium awarded Hubert Henrotte and Emma Balay with the medal for civil resistance.
