In 1974, Yaffa Eliach founded the Center for Holocaust Studies, Documentation and Research in Brooklyn, New York, which collected over 2,700 audio interviews of Holocaust survivors as well as thousands of physical artifacts. In 1990, after nearly two decades of leading The Center for Holocaust Studies, Yaffa Eliach decided she would be merging with [The Museum of Jewish Heritage—A Living Memorial to the Holocaust in Lower Manhattan](https://portal.ehri-project.eu/institutions/us-005548, where its oral history collection, objects, and institutional archives are now housed.

The goals of the Center for Holocaust Studies, as laid out in its 1974 by-laws, were: “(1) To promote, facilitate and conduct research activities into the extermination, torture and confinement of all victims persecuted at the hands of the Nazis and their sympathizers and supporters during the Second World War; (2) To collect, provide and disseminate information, to develop curricula for public and religious schools and to educate the general public regarding the Holocaust; (3) To operate a research center in which to conduct the above mentioned activities.”
