The museum houses over 8,000 exhibits including Polissya amber, paleontological and archaeological finds, collections of traditional clothes of Polissia region, rare photographs, documents, and personal belongings of prominent figures from the Sarny region. It also explores Holocaust in the film"History of the Sarny Communit" and has a large collection of original photographs from the 1920s and 1930s.

The Sarny Historical and Ethnographic Museum, which is a part of the Rivne Museum of Local Lore, was established in 1974 to preserve and promote the historical and cultural heritage of Polissia region. The Sarnen Museum was opened as a museum of local history. In 1978, the museum exposition was replenished with exhibits that were placed in the open air. Later, an exhibition was opened near the chapel, where a symbolic cemetery with stone monuments of the 17th century was placed. 
Working hours from 9.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m. from Tuesday to Friday and from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. on Saturday.

The museum's employees carry out scientific and research work on studying the material and spiritual culture of the Rivne Polissia. 
The museum houses a Skansen and has a wide range of exhibits including historical monuments, a collection of old clothes and household items, as well as materials related to crafts and trades from the Polissia region. The open area features architectural structures from Volyn Polissya.  
It is considered to be with limited access for visitors using wheelchairs and for people with visual impairments.
