Until 1944 more than 35.000 persons were interned, and about 10.000 killed in the killing site of Bubanj. \r\nIn 1967 a memorial museum was opened on the former campgrounds; in 1979 the campgrounds were declared a Cultural monument of Exceptional Importance.\r\nToday the museum is part of the National Museum of Nis.
