The archive in Szczecinek possesses 267 collections and archival founds, which makes 41981 units and 466 running metres. The oldest documents originate from 1681. The significant part of the holdings consists of German documents (before 1945). The archive gathers the records of towns and villages (e.g"Magistrat zu Neustetti" 1701-1945,"Magistrat der Stadt Jastro" 1701-1945,"Kreisausschuss des Kreises Drambur" 1777-1943) and documents of Polish administration: records of towns and villages (after 1945), judicial documents (courts), documents of schools and documents of agriculture cooperatives and state farms (PGR).

The archive in Szczecinek came into existence in 1952 according to the Decree of the Minister of Education from July 21, 1950 as a County State Archive in Szczecinek. It was subordinated to Gdańsk Voivodship State Archive (later: to Szczecin Voivodship State Archive). In 1976, the archive in Szczecinek was converted to the branch (Ekspozytura) of the Koszalin Voivodship State Archive. In 1981 it was renamed the branch (Oddział) of Koszalin Voivodship State Archive (from 1999: Koszalin State Archive).
