Yad Chaim Weizmann was founded in 1953 and dedicated to preserving the heritage of Dr. Chaim Weizmann (1874-1952), the first President of the State of Israel. Chaim Weizmann was the head of the Zionist movement for over 30 years, an outstanding scientist, and one of the founders of two leading academic institutions – the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, and the Weizmann Institute of Science in Rehovot.Yad Chaim Weizmann is situated on the campus of the Weizmann Institute of Science. Under its auspices are: the Weizmann House; the Ford Lincoln Cosmopolitan car given to Dr. Weizmann by Henry Ford the 2nd; the gravesite of Dr. Chaim and Dr. Vera Weizmann; the Weizmann Archives; the Memorial Plaza with a sculpture by Danny Caravan in memory of victims of the Holocaust; and 50 dunams (12.5 acres) of gardens. The Weizmann Archives contain all the writings of Dr. Weizmann and tens of thousands of documents relating to the statesmen, scientists and renowned people from the world over who had contact with Dr. Weizmann.

The Weizmann Archives, adjacent to the Weizmann House, hold all correspondence having to do with Chaim Weizmann – letters, photographs, newspaper articles, and more. Between over 200,000 documents found in the Archives, one can find letters from historical figures like Albert Einstein and Lord Arthur James Balfour to Chaim Weizmann, as well as interviews and other engrossing objects.
