rico:history "The Municipal Center for History and Documentation of Volos was founded in 1991 by the Municipality of Volos to collect, manage, and preserve historical records related to the city and region. Originally named the Municipal Center for Historical Research, Documentation of Archives, and Exhibits, it expanded its activities, collaborating with universities and research institutions in Greece and abroad.\r\n\r\nIn 1999, its founding charter was modified, and in 2000, it relocated to a larger space in the renovated Spirer building, enhancing its services. Over the years, it has digitized materials, created an online catalog and website (www.diki.gr), published the periodical En Volo, and established a publishing department and conservation workshop.\r\n\r\nSignificant acquisitions, including the G. Zioutos archive and the libraries of Professors N. Pantazopoulos and A. Angelou, have strengthened its role as a national research center. Looking ahead, the center aims to digitize more materials, support postgraduate research, document local creators, network museums, and organize events to promote the city’s cultural and historical heritage."@en ;
