Archival Guide Official Website, visit and research at place by Vasilis Ritzaleos on 22 March 2013.
The Central Library of Thessaloniki was founded in 1932 and officially opened in 1939. During the German Occupation it remained closed and the books were stored in warehouses. After the liberation, in 1944, it functioned in different locations of the city. In 2001, the new building of the Central Library of Thessaloniki was inaugurated.
The Library holds 158 titles of daily and weekly political newspapers that were released in Athens and in Thessaloniki from 1880 until today.
Access to the archival material is normally available and is free of charge. Researchers visiting for the first time are required to complete the researcher registration form.
The reading room is open Monday to Friday: 8:00 am to 20:30 pm. It's closed on public holidays.
There is a research room with at least 10 seats available for the researchers.
The Library offers a printed catalogue, in Greek, of the archival holdings.
Copies are available and are issued by library employees. Ratified copies of archival material are available upon application.
The Archive is located in the centre of the city. Parking is unavailable at the building, but several commercial parking lots are nearby.
The Archive is accessible to users with disabilities.
