Archives départementales du Tarn
Created by the law of 5 brumaire an V, the primary purpose of the Departmental Archives was to preserve the administrative archives of the Ancien Régime institutions and the new administrations set up by the Revolution.

These finding aids are freely available in the reading room:
- inventories of archives held in the Tarn and neighbouring departments
- standard works: dictionaries, encyclopaedias, works on local and regional history
- periodicals: Annuaire du Tarn, Almanach du Tarn libre, Bulletin de la SSABLT, Revue du Tarn, Revue du Rouergue, Annales du Midi, Revue du Cercle généalogique du Languedoc, etc.

- Tuesday to Friday from 09:00 to 12:30 and from 13:30 to 17:30
Before entering the reading room, you must leave your personal belongings (outdoor clothing, bags, panniers) in the free, compulsory cloakroom, to which you will keep the key while you are at the Archives.
You may only enter the reading room with the equipment you need to take notes (pencil, loose-leaf paper, laptops and cameras).
You can request the reservation of 5 documents in advance for the following day or for a later date, using the pre-order forms available in the reading room or using the form available online.
You may place on reserve documents that have not been fully consulted for a maximum of 7 working days, up to a limit of three documents, using the reserve forms available in the reading room.
At the end of the 7 days, without any news from you, the reserve will be cancelled and the documents reinstated.
You can request up to 10 documents per half-day in batches of no more than 5. Requests are made on 2 self-service computers.
Storekeepers will collect the requested documents at fixed times: 9.30am, 10.15am, 11am, 11.45am then 2pm, 2.45pm, 3.30pm, 4.15pm.
The reading room is a free research and consultation area open to all.
