Rigsarkivet Odense

The archive opened on 1 November 1893, as the second of the three provincial archives envisioned in the first Danish archive law of 30 March 1889. The archive magazines stores currently around 20 km of archival material. The Archives are a central institution for all work relating to the history of the region of Funen. Landsarkivet for Fyn is the former name of Rigsarkivet Odense. The archive is one of five subdivisions of the Danish National Archives. The archive primarily collects and stores records from local state authorities in the Funen area. However, the archive also holds records from offices other than those that are required to submit records.  

The National Archives' collections are made available in the reading room, which is open to all interested parties. Inventories for requesting other types of archival material are located in the Reading Room. It is possible to submit a request for Records which are not directly accessible to the users, by filling in the reservation slips (located by each seat) with specific information found in these inventories. The users have direct access to the Archives’ Reference Library located in the gallery; there, among other material, one can find the Danish Legal Gazette, legal references, administration history, biographies, Danish history, monographs, local history and general historical publications.
