Staatsarchiv Würzburg
The State Archives of Würzburg originated from the Archives of Würzburg bishops during their secularization of states (Hochstift - Bishopric) in the early 19th century. Like all regional Bavarian State Archives, they were renamed the"Kreisarchi" in 1975, and later"Staatsarchiv Würzbur" in 1921. The Archives experienced significant damage and losses during World War II. Reconstruction went on until the end of the 1960's. The State Archives has an additional magazine building at the Fortress Marienberg since 1976.
