Landesarchiv Saarbrücken

The formation of the Archives began in April 1948. After an administrative agreement in 1973 between Saarland und Rheinland-Pfalz collections of Landeshauptarchivs Koblenz und des Landesarchivs Speyer were transferred to the Landesarchiv Saarbrücken. Since 1 January 1993 the Landesarchiv has been considered an independent institution of the state. In 1997, the Archives moved to their current location in Saarbrücken-Scheidt. 

The holdings of the Archives contain records from various areas within the Rheinland-Palatinate, such the collections of Nassau-Saarbrücken, Herzogtum Lothringen, Herrschaft Dagstuhl, Sachsen-Coburg (St. Wendel), Bergamt and Bergwerksdirektion Saarbrücken. In addition the holdings include personal records from families and individuals of Saarland as well as various administrative documents, maps, drawings, posters, pictures, press documentation, textbooks.
