Holdings of the Brandenburgisches Landeshauptarchiv are divided into six main collections: Territories of Kurmark, Neumark and Niederlausitz from 10th century to 1808/16, preußischen Provinz Brandenburg 1808/16-1945, the state of Brandenburg (1945-1952), the districts Cottbus, Frankfurt (Oder) and Potsdam (1952-1990) and the state of Brandenburg since 1990, in addition to other special collections. Collections overview indicates the presence of time-relevant material, such as NSDAP party and military records.
Brandenburgisches Landeshauptarchiv
Until 1945 existed as a dependent department of the Preußischen Geheimen Staatsarchiv. In 1949 it was established as the central state archive with the responsibility of the authorities and establishments of the state. In 1992 the building of its current location"Zum Windmühlenber" in Potsdam occurred. In 2003 all archival materials were moved to the main location, Bornim.
