Sächsisches Staatsarchiv - Hauptstaatsarchiv Dresden 
Hauptstaatsarchiv Dresden, founded in 1834, is department 2 of the Sächsischen Staatsarchivs. Until 1933 it was the only state archive in Sachsen. On 1 January 2005 the state archives in Chemnitz, Freiberg and Leipzig were consolidated with the Haupstaatsarchiv. It is responsible for the records of the ministries of der Freistaat Sachsen and the authorities, courts and other public sites in the District Directorate of Dresden.

The collection contains over 47,000 meters of records, roughly 53,000 documents, over 360,000 cards and plans in addition to a range of other archive materials. The online collections overview indicates the presence of a range of documents, including World War II-relevant materials, such as various administrative records and materials of the German Reich.
