"The Archives was established in March 1940 as the Mogilev Regional Party Archives, and contained records of the Communist Party and Komsomol regional and district committees and local organizations.\r\n\r\nIn the Second World War the archives were evacuated to the Tambov region in Russia, and later were transferred to the Party Archives of the Central Committee of the Communist Party (of Bolsheviks) of Belarus. The Archives resumed its work on November 5, 1947.\r\n\r\nIn 1982 the regional party archives acquired 60 827 files of the Party and Komsomol committees and organizations that functioned in the Mogilev region from 1918 to 1941, transferred from the Party Archives of the Central Committee of the Communist Party (of Bolsheviks) of Belarus.\r\n\r\nIn March 1992 on the basis of the Mogilev Regional Party Archives, the Branch of the State Archives of Mogilev Region was founded in Mogilev.\r\n\r\nIn September 1996 the Branch was reorganized as the State Archives of Public Organizations of Mogilev Region. These documents reflect the activities of the Party organizations in the sphere of Party and ideological work, as well as their control over the economic and social developments in the region.\r\n\r\nThe fonds of the uezd (district) Party committees (1918-1935) contain data on the struggle of the Belarusian people against the Polish invasion, the assistance to the front and the families of Red Army soldiers, the activities of the revolutionary committees, and the struggle against banditry.\r\n\r\nThere are many documents that illustrate the work among women, peasants and national minorities in the pre-war period (1920-1935), and throw light on the process of the collectivization, the establishment of collective farms, the development of Stakhanov's Shock-Worker Movement and the socialist competition, as well as various cultural and educational activities.\r\n\r\nThe documentary materials of the Party regional and district committees contain data on the current state and restoration of the economics after the Nazi occupation, materials concerning the commemoration of the people's deeds in the Second World War, documents concerning the agitation-propaganda activities and economic campaigns, data on the developments in industry, transportation and agriculture, surveys and reports on health care, public education, and the work of various social organizations and charitable societies.\r\n\r\nThe documents of the Komsomol fonds contain data on the labour, military, patriotic and physical education, as well as the development of scientific and technical creativity among the young people.\r\n\r\nThe Archives holds memories left by the participants of the October Revolution of 1917, the Civil War, the defence of Mogilev in summer 1941, the patriotic underground organization in the Mogilev region in the Second World War, documents written by the writer M. Lynkov when he worked for the\"Communis\" newspaper in the town of Bobruisk in 1930.\r\n\r\nThere are documents of various social organizations that operated in the Mogilev region from 1990 to 2002: veterans, women's, youth, children's, charity, religious and political parties.\r\n\r\nThe Archives keeps personal fonds relating to N. Ia. Velikanov, the collector of bookstamps; M. P. Bulavatski, lecturer at the Kuleshov Teachers College in Mogilev; I. A. Tikhonov, participant in WWII and presidium member of the Mogilev City Council of the Belarusian Republic-level Organization of Veterans of War, Labour and Armed Forces.\r\n\r\nRecords of the newly created social organizations reflect the evolution of business, physical education and sports in the Mogilev region (bodybuilding, fitness, computer science), the activities of the fire protection society and the nature protection society, as well as literary and journalistic issues.
