"The Archives was established in 1940 as the Glubokoe District Archive. \r\n\r\nIn World War Two, during the German occupation of Belarus (1941-1944) the Archives did not work; its documents did not survive. In June 1944, after the liberation of Belarus the Archives resumed its work. \r\n\r\nIn November 1963, with the liquidation of the district (municipal) archives the Branch of the State Archives of Vitebsk Region in Glubokoe was established on the basis of the Braslav, Glubokoe, Dokshitsy, Miory, Postavy and Sharkovshchina district archives. The Archives also acquired documents of the liquidated Begoml, Vidzy, Dunilovichi and Plisa district archives.\r\n\r\nIn May 1996, the Archives received its present name of the Zonal State Archives in Glubokoe. "Amount of holdings: 1.970 fonds, 273.568 items\r\n\r\nChronological scope: from 1944 to the present\r\n\r\nGeographical coverage:\r\n- abolished Vidzy, Disna and Dunilovichi districts of the abolished Polotsk and later Molodechno regions\r\n- abolished Begoml district of the Minsk region\r\n- abolished Plisa district of the abolished Polotsk and later Molodechno regions, and later of the Vitebsk region\r\n- Braslav, Glubokoe, Dokshitsy, Miory, Postavy and Sharkovshchina districts of the Vitebsk region\r\n\r\nContents:\r\nThe main bulk of the archive's holdings are the documents created by the district and town deputies' councils and their divisions, various inspections, village councils, collective and state farms, records of courts, prosecutor's, labour organizations, statistical institutions, industrial and educational agencies.\r\n\r\nRecords of the district executive committees and village councils contain documents on the economic damage attributable to the Nazi occupation in WWII and the postwar restoration of national economics; materials concerning the developments in industry, transportation, communication, agriculture, construction, trade, catering, and consumer services.\r\n\r\nRecords of agricultural and forestry institutions throw light on the collectivization of agriculture and the organization of state farms, agricultural artels and communes, and machine-&-tractor stations; these contain data on land nationalization, land tenure, forest management and timber purchasing, and more.\r\n\r\nThe fonds of courts, prosecutor's and notary offices contain courts decisions in civil and criminal cases, agreements of sale, gift and building, etc.\r\n\r\nThe fonds of educational agencies and institutions, health institutions, and the culture divisions at the district executive committees illuminate the issues of public education, culture, health care, and sports.\r\n\r\nThe Archives holds personal fonds of the honorary citizens of the Glubokoe Region--Heroes of Socialist Labour M. A. Klimenko and L. K. Pugovko, the honorary forester and the USSR State Prize winner M. V. Iarmolovich, the specialist in local lore A. A. Sobolevski. The fonds of personal papers related to A. A. Sobolevski includes the document in which the author, based on archaeological materials,\"The materials on the history and geography of the Disna and Vileika districts of the Vilnius provinc\", and\"The Old Vitebs\" by A. Sapunov,\"The documents of the Vilnius Archaeography Commissio\", as well as using his own regional studies, describes the history of the town of Glubokoe from the very beginning of first settlements in the area to the present days.
