The museum building was constructed in 2012, funded by Jo Peeters and Sofie van Krunkelveldt. Constructed in a modern pattern, it holds the exposition room and the restauration workshop on the main floor. The archive is inplemented on the second floor.
The first line of the private collection and archives are based upon the personal work of Calixte Vandevelde between 1939 and 1968. The second line of the private collection and archives are based upon the work of curator Jo Peeters and Sofie Vankrunkelveldt. This second line is aquired by purchase, transfer and gifts. Also archeological projects in the field are part of the aquisition.
