Σφαέλλος, Δημήτριος
Son of Constantinos and Aspasia, Dimitrios Sfaellos was born in 1911, in Piraeus and studied at the Law School of the University of Athens. In 1929 he was one of the founders of the National Student Association, of which he was president until 1931. From that year until 1933 he took charge of the Association’s treasury and the newspaper Student News. In 1933 together with Alekos Kanellopoulos and Stefanos Streit, he founded the Student House. The same year he resigned and founded the National Union of Greece (known as EEE) branch in Athens. The National Union of Greece (EEE) was an organization founded in Thessaloniki, in 1927 by Christian Greek refuges from Asia Minor, known for the antisemitic actions and speech it developed in Thessaloniki during the 1930's.
Since 1936 he was actively engaged in the yarn and textile industry"O Vamba" (The Cotton) in Piraeus, where his father served as the president and his brothers, George and Spiros also participated. After the War he founded the political group EMPROS and participated in the 1946 elections, taking part in the wider coalition of the Populist Party, and he was elected MP of Piraeus. He took over active action in the struggle for the union of Cyprus with Greece. He was a consultant to various scientific organizations.
