Solomon family papers
Harry Solomon (Chaim Salomonowitz) (1869-c.1950) was a member of a family of Jewish merchants from Liepaja (Libau), Latvia. The Salomonowitz family businesses included paper manufacture and, as Prager und Salomonowitz, from 1907, an import business, bringing herring from England and Scotland; along with a trade in other manufactured goods, including leather. Harry Solomon came to England as part of this work and remained in London for considerable periods of time from 1910 onwards, where he was later joined by his family, as refugees from Russian persecution. He worked as an accountant in London in the 1930s.
