Lassar Brueckheimer was the son of Simon Brückheimer (1889–1950), a Jewish school teacher and historian of the Jewry in the Franconia region. After S. Brückheimer had been interned in Buchenwald concentration camp during the November Pogrom, the family had emigrated to England in 1939.
