The first uncertain record of Ledeč can be found in a document from 1181. More records date back to the 13th century. From the second half of the 18th century, Ledeč was donated by Maria Theresa to the Order of Poor Noblewomen at Prague Castle and Ledeč remained under their administration until 1918. In 1790, the regulated municipality office was established there. In 1850, a district court was established there and Ledeč became the seat of the district governor's office which lasted under various names until 1945, when the district national committee was established. Jewish settlement was evidenced since the first half of the 16th century. A synagogue and a cemetery can be found in the town.
